Liberals are Druids
I love Ann Coulter, and not just for her looks –- she’s too skinny for my taste. No, I love Ann for her brain, her wit, her moxie and most of all for her unique, innate ability to DRIVE LIBERALS CRAZY. On TV and in person she comes across as a pussy cat, delicate, vulnerable, perhaps because she is frequently attacked. But on talk radio and, especially, in her books Ann is as brusque as a nun and as lethal as an IED.
All her books are gems. I particularly liked Slander (that catalogues the monstrous liberal lies about the American Right, and tells some funny stories, like the time when Al Gore claimed the Cain and Abel parable was about the dangers of pollution) and Treason: Liberal Treachery from the Cold War to the War on Terrorism. That one opened my eyes about “the indispensable Joe McCarthy.” (Schoolchildren are taught that “McCarthy was a liar” and that he “did not discover a single communist anywhere.” History is an endless process of liberal brainwashing.)
But Ann’s new book is her best yet. Godless: The Church of Liberalism explains why you really don’t want to talk to liberals, even if you sometimes must. (Her book just prior to Godless was How to Talk to Liberals.) It’s because, generally speaking – yes, I have some libdem friends who don’t exactly fit the mold - liberals are Druids.
Ann explains that if Martians landed in America they would conclude that Liberalism is our state religion while Christianity and Judaism are prohibited by law. Liberalism bears all the attributes of a religion, with its own cosmology (in which mankind is an inconsequential accident), its creation story (Darwinian evolution), its holy sacraments (abortions of all types), its holy writ (Roe vs. Wade), its martyrs (Soviet spies and cop killers), its churches (public schools) and its clergy (public school teachers).
“The state religion of liberalism demands obeisance to the National Organization of Women, tithing to teachers unions, reverence for abortion and formulaic imprecations (eg. “Bush lied, kids died.”)
Everyone is taxed to support indoctrination into the state religion in the public schools, where innocent children are taught a specific belief system (certainly not belief in God and morals) rather than, say, math.
“As a matter of faith, liberals believe: Darwinism is a fact, people are born gay, child-molesters can be rehabilitated and recycling is a virtue, while chastity is not.”
There is plenty of food for thought in Ann’s new book. Her chapters on -- liberal’s passion for the perp, liberalism’s doctrine of infallibility (hysterical women), the fairy tale (sparing the rod to spoil the teacher), the left’s war on science and how the Walkman evolved into the iPod by random mutations -- are priceless and worthy of several blog posts. Stay tuned.

In characterizing 9/11 wives who search and demand answers to questions others slough off, Ann Coulter says things like: "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much." And in her latest book she writes: "From Marx to Hitler, the men responsible for the greatest mass murders of the twentieth century were avid Darwinists." She believes in Intelligent Design but gives us no clue as to how or when the creator entered into the soup of life. But that's all right I guess, neither can the gurus of that particular religious sect.
From what I’ve seen and heard, this is representative Coulter -–outrageous, insensitive, stupid. I suppose liberals read her as a way of confirming their worst estimates of the intelligence of conservatives. But the real question is why aren’t intelligent conservatives embarrassed by her hollow chattering?
Face it: Coulter is a trash talker with a shtick she’s going to ride to the bank for as long as she can.
gary,
Have you ever seen the "jersey girls" perform? You then might see Coulter's point.
As for Hitler and the boys --- she's exactly right about their fervid Darwinism.
She says little about ID but truly destroys the myth of Darwinian evolution as "proven science."
You are right about "outrageous" but wrong about "stupid." She is brilliant. And I hope (know) that libdems continue to underestimate the intelligence of conservatives. They will never learn why we win.
Stay tuned, I'll explain Annie to you in a few posts.
ps What's your opinion of the Muslim problem in Britain?
Funny you should ask. I just read this by Gautam Malkani, an editor at The Financial Times.
“LAST weekend, Britons of various races and religions flocked to a public park near West London’s South Asian heartlands of Hounslow and Southall.
“Dressed in designer labels, they reveled to records being spun by the likes of Panjabi Hit Squad, Bobby Friction and Nihal, BBC Radio disc jockeys who have led the public broadcaster’s championing of British South Asian urban music (a fusion of hip-hop, bhangra, R&B and Bollywood better known as “desi beats”).
“The performance was part of the London Mela, an annual festival of South Asian culture and food and one of dozens of summer melas held across Britain over the past two months. When I was growing up in Hounslow in the 1980’s, these festivals used to be parochial, ethnically exclusive events. But in recent years they have become racially diverse. More important, they are no longer really festivals of South Asian culture; they celebrate British South Asian culture.”
Then comes Malkani’s main point:
“Those who stayed at home, however, were given a very different view of the state of multicultural Britain. The weekend newspapers were crammed with apocalyptic warnings about Britain’s failure to integrate its South Asian youth into mainstream society — a failure that, in light of the recent foiled terrorist plot, again appears to have left young, British-born South Asian men so disenfranchised that they are prepared to carry out mass murder against their fellow citizens.”
So, are we going to put our faith and hopes in the music of the Mela or in the crisis of the moment media?
It would be naive to think the stew of cultures and religion that is Britain today will assimilate without missing a “desi beat.” Spirituals, ragtime, jazz, blues and rock’n’roll, the wonderful music that seeped through and leaped over high fences of segregation in this country, did not dissolve racism. Hip Hop hasn’t done the job either. But Gautam Malkani is providing a needed corrective to the Nervous Nellies (Now where did that very useful term come from?) and shoot first and dance later crowd who sees a terrorist in every dish of kimi.
rTrue, Ann's book was awesome.
And the accusation of plagarism was as thin as a razor blade. One sentence as far I could tell had the same construction. But it was not a statement of opinion. It was a basic statement of fact.
I found no problem with her choice of it in her book.
On another note, Bill, please thank your folks who send beef jerky and books to all us in Gitmo, Cuba. We love it. The gate guards enjoyed it. My guys liked it. And it saved me one day when I got slammed with work, and had nothing to eat. Presto, instant meal!
We got four copies of Ann's book at the Exchange. I got territorial if it was either covered up or on a lower shelf. I checked it twice a week. (Don't tell my boss; he might think I have too much time on my hands!) Look forward to more of your writing on it.
Ann's latest book is excellent. And once again, she is right on in her assessment of liberals.
And if you've ever seen the "Jersey Girls' perform, you'll see that they enjoy fame very much as well as their new-found celebrity status. But because they are liberals, they won't admit it... while they too ride to the bank with their trash talk...
